Robina Flooring Preparations & Maintenance

Acclimatization
  • Flooring should be placed flat on an even underlay in the closed packages for acclimatization process, 48 hours prior laying.
  • Never placed against outside wall or near a direct heat or air conditioning source.
  • Only open when immediately needed for laying, reseal the packet with adhesive tape if unused.
  • Ideal room temperature for laminate flooring installation is around 22ºC and relative moisture of 55%.
Sub-Floor Requirements
Laminate flooring (LF) can be laid on almost all types of floors (existing stone floors, ceramic, marble, chipboard floors, PVC and linoleum floors) provides that sub-floor is clean, dry and capable to withhold the expected load. However, it must be laid as level as possible on the sub-floor (max 1/8” in 8 linear feet; or <3mm level ness within 1 m distance).
Wooden floors : Repair any warping, clean and level if necessary.
Old boarded floors : Check for stability in order to avoid creaking sounds. The screws should be re-tightened and if necessary level the boards.
Concrete : Additional care should be taken to ensure that the concrete has been fully cured for a minimum of 28 days with a maximum of 2% CM residual moisture. Level without any bump.
Ceramic tile : Filling grout areas that do not conform to the standard level ness.
Carpet : Existing carpet and needle felt must be removed. Ensure the surface is properly dry off.
Radiant heated sub-floor
Flooring can be installed over all types of sub-floors containing heating systems if below guidelines are followed.
  • Follow the directions or information provided by the supplier or manufacturer of the floor heating system.
  • The concrete must be cured a minimum of 6 weeks.
  • To minimize the effect that rapid changes, a 6~8mil Polyethylene (PE) moisture barrier or insulation mat should be installed over slab radiant heat systems. To protect the barrier from rips, lay 0.079” (2mm) thick PE foam over the moisture barrier.
  • The heat must be turn down to 15ºC for one week prior to installation. Do not turn off if outside below freezing.
  • After 48 hours installation, the heat may gradually increased to the operating level desired, but avoid surface temperature greater than 28ºC.
Underlay
Use a moisture barrier of at least 0.008” (0.20mm) thick Polyethylene foil is recommended (but no need on wooden under floors). Seal the edges with moisture proof adhesive tapes or apply an overlapping of 8” (200mm) between edges. Allow extra one inch (25mm) up to the side walls.
Use a minimum 0.079” (2mm) thick plastic or PE foam underlay onto the moisture barrier as the intermediate layer. No not overlap the edges.
Underlay provides comfort by giving a slight cushion and helps to correct variations on your sub-floor besides acts as a moisture barrier. Special underlay has a sound absorption function.

Plant a Tree

Together we can reforest our planet by planting three trees for each of the six billion people that now inhabit our earth. If we were to add an additional eighteen billion young trees to the existing numbers, we would put a major dent in pollution.

Tree clean our air, provide homes for animals and birds, help regulate the hydrology of our atmosphere, and provide beauty all around us. Go to your local nursery and ask what trees will do well in your area. Also ask about fruit or nut trees - why not provide yourself with a snack while you help depollute the planets?

While you are at your nursery, ask about the care your tree requires. How often does it need to be watered, and does it need any special plant food? Make a promise to yourself and to the trees you plant to do what it takes to assure their survival.

Plant a tree to celebrate your own birth, the arrival of a little one in your family, a wedding or anniversary - or to remember a loved one that has passed on. Plant a tree on Earth Day, Mother's Day, or Father's Day. Ask your garden center to contact you if it has seasonal trees left over that it wasn't able to sell - sometimes your nursery will be willing to provide free trees if you are willing to do the planting. Ask your city or county where trees are needed in your community, and donate a tree. Make the planting an event - bring your family and friends and provide a picnic lunch.

"Amazing Grace"

Perhaps the best-known hymn in the world, this lovely song has touched millions of hearts. It has been sung for a hundred years in churches of every denomination and recorded in dozens of vocal and instrumental versions. It has unique depth and simplicity and, no matter how it is sung, a special quality of delight.

"Amazing Grace" was written by John Newton, a slave trader who had lost his soul in the search for money, power, and pleasure. When, out of the blue, grace came into his life, he changed completely and was moved to write, "I once was lost but now I'm found; was blind, but now I see." Before his moment of grace, he could not see the truth of love, kindness, and compassion - but after he found his soul, he could see the light. And it was amazing.

Hug a Tree

Every living thing on the planet has a certain quality of life that we can reach out and touch. Others forms of life can touch us as well, when we are receptive to the idea and the process.

Many studies have been done investigating the vibration level of plants. In The Secret Life of Plants we learn that all plants "feel" differently toward different people and events. A plant that fears harm sends out a distress signal that is picked up on a vibration level by other plants in the area. A happy plant will grow stronger and more rapidly. Plants like certain kinds of music.

It is hard for us, as humans, to feel the vibration levels of plants without equipment to do so. There is one major exception. Hugging a tree will get you in touch with one of the deepest and strongest life vibrations known to the plant kingdom.

Pick a tree in the park, or your own backyard, that looks huggable. Notice which side of the tree is warm to the touch, which is cool to the touch. Wrap your arms around the tree, and hold it in a firm embrace. Rest your cheek on the bark. Put your ear to the trunk and listen. What do you hear? Move your awareness to the area of your heart. What connection do you feel, if any? Take your time! Move to the other side of the tree and hug it again. Try other tress.

Pick a tree to make friends with and visit your friend often. It will keep you feeling that the plant world and our world are really a part of one big whole.
