Plant a Tree

Together we can reforest our planet by planting three trees for each of the six billion people that now inhabit our earth. If we were to add an additional eighteen billion young trees to the existing numbers, we would put a major dent in pollution.

Tree clean our air, provide homes for animals and birds, help regulate the hydrology of our atmosphere, and provide beauty all around us. Go to your local nursery and ask what trees will do well in your area. Also ask about fruit or nut trees - why not provide yourself with a snack while you help depollute the planets?

While you are at your nursery, ask about the care your tree requires. How often does it need to be watered, and does it need any special plant food? Make a promise to yourself and to the trees you plant to do what it takes to assure their survival.

Plant a tree to celebrate your own birth, the arrival of a little one in your family, a wedding or anniversary - or to remember a loved one that has passed on. Plant a tree on Earth Day, Mother's Day, or Father's Day. Ask your garden center to contact you if it has seasonal trees left over that it wasn't able to sell - sometimes your nursery will be willing to provide free trees if you are willing to do the planting. Ask your city or county where trees are needed in your community, and donate a tree. Make the planting an event - bring your family and friends and provide a picnic lunch.
